Define and explain the reasons for the development of Feudelism in Japan.

Feudalism is defined as a lord-vassal system. A lord-vassal system means that a person pledges their loyalty and some military service in exchange for protection. The start of feudalism in Japan began with the Fujiwara clan's decline. The government was quickly losing money and control over many of the daimyo. The Daimyo had huge armies of hired warriors called samurai. Many of the samurai that helped the daimyos were actually vassals, people who pledged their allegiance to a military purpose in return for protection.  The lord and vassal system gave the daimyos even more power and created the beginnings of feudalism in Japan.
